Your home in my village in La Rioja

Share quality time with your friends and loved ones in this accommodation for 16 people, with two completely renovated apartments and very comfortable beds, a large garden for your summer barbecues and a large “txoko” dining room with a kitchen and fireplace for winter meals.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a village, that’s why I want you to enjoy mine.

Welcome to Herramélluri, the village and house where I spent the long summers of my childhood and adolescence. Days of lounging in the garden, riding my bicycle and eating sunflower seeds.

I hope you will also perceive that feeling of peace and tranquility, of sun and north wind and starry nights that can only be seen in privileged places like this.

The pleasure of small things

We all know how important it is to enjoy day to day life, but we do not always have the time to stop.

My home is that place where you can disconnect from everything, connect with your friends and family, and dedicate quality time to them and to yourself.

My town, Herramélluri, is an ideal place to visit La Rioja at any time of the year.

  • Start the day by preparing a cup of aromatic coffee with the Italian coffee maker that I have left in your apartment.
  • Take a nice walk along the route that runs along the banks of the river.
  • Go and buy some mouth-watering peppers and tomatoes conserves at Chato’s, a local producer. Tell him I sent you.
  • Prepare a barbecue with the vine shoot or charcoal that you will find in the “txoko” kitchen.
  • Or simply, relax in the garden, in the shade in summer and in the sun in winter after visiting the best wineries in the town of Haro.

And for everything you need you have Fito, a friend of the family who lives in the village and will give you the keys to my house. Fito knows La Rioja like the back of his hand and will gladly help you if you want to go on excursions.

Frequently asked questions

Who will give me the key to the house?

Fito, a family friend will be waiting for you when you arrive and will explain where to leave them at the end of your stay. Fito is a trusted person for whatever you need, as well as a wonderful guide if you want to get to know the surroundings.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

You can arrive from 16:00 onwards; the departure time is at 11:00 but if you have time and the house is free, I am happy to let you enjoy it all day.

How many beds are there?

There are two apartments, each apartment has 1 room with a double bed, and 2 rooms with two single beds. In one of the apartments there is a double sofa bed and in the other apartment there are 2 single sofa beds.

Is there a coffee machine? Is the kitchen equipped?

Yes, of course. You have an Italian coffee maker in the kitchen of your apartment and in the txoko-dining room you also have an espresso machine. Don’t forget to bring your own coffee.

In the apartment kitchens and in the txoko you have everything you need to cook or make a barbecue, as well as plates, glasses and cutlery.

Does the barbecue have firewood or shoots?

Both, you only need the food you are going to cook.

What happens if I have to cancel last minute?

If you cancel less than 15 days in advance, we will charge you 15% of the total reservation. If you cancel before there is no expense.

Why do I have to pay a deposit? When is it returned to me?

We ask for a credit card and block 500€ which is released in a maximum of one week after leaving the apartment. My guests are very respectful so this deposit has never been charged.

Can I bring my pet?

Sorry, we do not admit any kind of pet.

Are there any supermarkets and pharmacies nearby?

In the village there is a small bar stocked with basic products. In the town of Leiva, just 1.5 kilometers away, you have a supermarket, pharmacy and restaurants.

What is the temperature like in summer? Is there somewhere to bathe?

It gets hot, I’m not going to lie to you, but in the garden there is always an area that is shaded.

You can also go to the municipal swimming pools of Leiva 1.5 km from the house. There is a picnic area, swings, soccer field and bar. The facilities are very good, and there is a very friendly atmosphere of families of the town, groups of friends and vacationers.

What can you do without leaving the village?

There is a simple and signposted route that starts from the Church of Velasco and runs along the riverbank until you reach the hermitage of Remélluri. It is 4 kilometers round trip and it is worth it. You can also enjoy a very pleasant walk along agricultural roads to Leiva, just 1.5 kilometers away.

Is there somewhere nearby to eat if we don’t feel like cooking?

I like the restaurant Aker in Cuzcurrita, Masip in Ezcaray and the Vieja Bodega in Casalarreina. They are all a stone’s throw away.

At the Bar Ciudad de Libia in Herramélluri you can have a drink, eat some tapas and also make food to order.  Talk to Oti and tell him that you are there on behalf of Carmen from Casa Zacarías.

What is there to do in the area? What time is best to go?

All year round, if you want to have a good time with your family or friends, but here are some suggestions:

  • In spring, enjoy the fields in bloom and play golf
  • In summer, enjoy the barbecue and visit villages
  • In autumn, see the harvest and visit wineries
  • In winter, go skiing and eat next to the warmth of the txoko fireplace

The whole area is a great place to go cycling in any season and the house has plenty of space to store them.

What can I buy as a gift?

I recommend buying pepper conserves in the shop of “El Chato” in the village. In spring there is a queue to buy them.

What can I visit in the vicinity? What wineries are nearby?

Haro at 18 km is spectacular and has great well-known wineries. I suggest you also visit smaller, family-run wineries such as Bodegas Bohedal, Castillo de Cuzcurrita or Bodegas Urbina. These are the closest to the house and you will like them if you want a more personal experience.

We are also very close to Ezcaray (20 Km) and Santo Domingo de la Calzada (9 Km). They are worth visiting if you do not know them.

If you like to play golf there is a course in Cirueña (19 Km).

And if you just want to be outdoors, there is a Roman settlement at the foot of the Piquillo, a small hill to the left of the road that goes to Santo Domingo de la Calzada that we used to climb as children to have our afternoon snack. If you dare to climb, from the top of Piquillo there are stunning views.
